Exciting Adventures in Air Dry Clay

This weekend, I finished up the air dry clay experiments I started last weekend. I am pretty happy with how they turned out, and have already used the bowl in some listing photos. It is not perfect, and I probably should have done something else as far as painting the top edge, but it actually worked pretty well for photographing a couple of pairs of earrings.

I wanted to post a little bit about the air dry clay I’m using. It is DAS paper clay, and I have both stone and white. It is a mixture of actual clay minerals and paper, so it is nontoxic and biodegradable. The earrings and pendant are sealed with DecoArt Triple Thick Gloss Glaze (brush on), which is water based and nontoxic, made in the USA. It does not have any strong odor and creates a really nice thick shine, but I do not believe it is water proof, and neither is air dry clay. Air dry clay is also not food safe, so any dishes I make should be used for decorative purposes only.

I’m trying to move toward more sustainable and earthy friendly products, especially as I experiment, and in that effort, found Earth Paint Natural Acrylik Paint. I used it to paint the edges of the bowl. I plan to play around with coloring wet clay and doing more painting with it soon.

Here is a link and there is a photo below.

But first, here are my almost finished air dry clay projects!

Here is one of the photos I used the bowl as a display in:

And here is the paint:

I started a new project using red alcohol ink to color the white air dry clay, and think I got some decent video, so stay tuned for that!

  1. Waiting to read about your adventure into working with pmc. It’s been down on my list of new things I want to try for a while, but I just bought a book, to tackle what’s on top.. soldering.
    Love your designs.

    1. Thank you so much! I don’t know how to solder, but I should probably learn. Always so much to learn, and I tend to jump around, but I’m hoping to get the nerve to break into the silver clay soon, and will definitely share! Thank you for commenting, I usually just get spam hahah! ❤️
