Preparing for the Move – Site Updates
As I recently posted, the marketplace that hosts my website is closing its doors on March 23rd. That is a week away, and I feel mostly prepared. Luckily, I have maintained my Square Online shop over the years, so I am not completely starting from scratch. Unfortunately, many items barely have descriptions and I found a handful with no descriptions at all, not to mention I will have to re-take and add photos of many items. Some items were never listed on my goimagine shop, and those will basically start from scratch.
I am also in the process of adding all of my items to Google Merchant Center. I am using the Google Sheets method and so far so good, other than some items have images that are too small. It is a huge effort for what may not be an equal return, but it is forcing me to examine each listing and make some changes. I am also taking the opportunity to change SKUs, another pretty big undertaking. I am certainly grateful I am a slow maker because I only have about 150 listings!
In addition to that work, I have also been making changes to this site, as you may have noticed. Mostly, the changes have been aesthetic, but I did add a new blog category called New in the Shop, where I will post newly listed items. I may not post every single new item, but it is something I am going to try out. I will be letting go of my Blogger blog, since the only reason I have it was to connect to my goimagine shop. Since this site will be my new hub, I see no reason to have two blogs, but I also like the idea of separating products from process. I have not really been able to figure out how to add my banner to this site, but it looks acceptable on my Square shop. At least, I think it is as good as it can be using their free tier. This site will probably always be a work in progress, but it has been neglected far too long. As sad as I am to lose my goimagine shop and website, it was the motivation to finally give this site the attention it needs.
